About the Opportunity
Our client is a prestigious nonprofit located in Manhattan that is seeking an experienced Employee Relations Director to oversee the organization’s employee relations strategy and practices. The Director of Employee Relations will lead the organization’s efforts to ensure fair, consistent, and compliant treatment of employees while promoting a positive culture. This role blends strategy with hands-on work, partnering with leadership to address challenges and strengthen engagement. The ideal candidate is a strategic and empathetic HR professional with deep expertise in employee relations who can resolve complex issues, coach managers, and foster an inclusive, positive workplace culture. This role follows a hybrid work schedule.
The annual base salary range is $100,000 to $125,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Serve as the lead advisor on complex employee relations issues, investigations, and conflict resolution
- Develop, update, and interpret policies to ensure legal compliance and alignment with organizational values
- Provide training and coaching for managers on performance management, workplace respect, and conflict resolution
- Monitor trends in employee relations, report insights to leadership, and recommend improvements
- Partner with HR, Legal, and DEI teams to advance culture and engagement initiatives
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in HR or related field; advanced degree or HR certification preferred
- 8+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 5 in employee relations
- Strong knowledge of employment law, investigation best practices, and nonprofit work environments
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
