Director, Corporate Accounting

About the Opportunity

Our client, a rapidly scaling technology company headquartered in New York City, is seeking a Director of Corporate Accounting to lead key operational and reporting functions within its finance organization. This influential, hybrid-role is designed for a strategic, hands-on accounting leader excited to build and optimize accounting operations, including full oversight of the accounts payable function. The role offers a unique chance to shape accounting processes, drive automation, and develop a high-performing team as the company continues its growth trajectory.

The annual base salary range is $195,000 to $210,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the month-end close process for a variety of core accounting areas, such as cash, fixed assets, leases, accounts payable, accrued expenses, contingencies, payroll, stock-based compensation, capitalized software, debt, and equity
  • Continuously enhance efficiency and accuracy in close and reporting, including process automation, robust documentation, and improved reconciliation and review procedures
  • Collaborate with operational teams to deliver accurate accounting in line with US GAAP, ensuring business objectives and financial controls are maintained
  • Develop, roll out, and enforce updated accounting policies and procedures in compliance with technical GAAP guidance, while educating team members and partners on key accounting concepts
  • Serve as a lead partner for the selection and implementation of the company’s future ERP and related finance systems, ensuring alignment with strategic growth objectives
  • Work with Strategic Finance and other teams to deliver financial insights and help optimize chart of accounts and reporting frameworks
  • Maintain a strong internal control environment and make recommendations to improve financial operations, including SOX readiness and enhancement of internal controls
  • Partner with treasury and technology teams to establish reliable, scalable cash reconciliation and reporting processes
  • Oversee Accounts Payable operations, ensuring timely and compliant invoice processing, while advancing best practices and leveraging process automation technologies
  • Cultivate a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and accountability within the accounting team, acting as a mentor and leader
  • Anticipate and implement process changes to ensure efficient, scalable support for a fast-paced, evolving organization

 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
  • Active CPA license in good standing
  • At least 10 years of relevant accounting experience, including previous leadership of accounting operations, ideally within a public company; Big 4 background strongly preferred
  • Prior work experience in fintech, financial services, or another regulated/high-growth sector preferred
  • Deep technical proficiency in US GAAP as it applies to corporate accounting areas such as contingencies, leasing, debt, share-based compensation, and capitalized software
  • Demonstrated success with ERP implementation, especially in designing and establishing record-to-report and procure-to-pay modules
  • Hands-on experience with AP and T&E systems (such as Ramp or Bill.com) and a strong understanding of associated best practices
  • Proven history designing, implementing, and overseeing strong internal controls, with SOX knowledge strongly preferred
  • Previous direct management of Accounts Payable is a plus; comprehensive expertise in AP operations required
  • Ability to excel in fast-paced, rapidly changing environments; highly adaptable to shifting priorities
  • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills across all organizational levels, with a high degree of professionalism and self-motivation
  • Exceptional organizational skills, detail-orientation, and the ability to independently manage projects as well as roll up sleeves as needed
  • Strong leadership, mentorship, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to proactively identify and resolve challenges, delegate responsibilities, and foster a high-performance culture
