Director of Outpatient Behavioral Health Services

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Behavioral Health Leader to oversee outpatient mental health and substance use programs across two clinic locations in Upper Manhattan, New York City. This role is responsible for clinical quality, operational efficiency, financial management, and staff supervision within a multidisciplinary setting. The Director will guide teams that include therapists, peer specialists, nursing staff, medical providers, and substance use professionals, ensuring integrated, accessible, and person-centered care.

The annual base salary range is $110,000 to $130,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide full administrative, operational, and clinical leadership for outpatient mental health and substance use programs, including services operating under CCBHC regulations
  • Supervise and support a diverse team, including medical leadership, clinicians, peer support roles, nursing, and administrative staff across multiple locations
  • Oversee staffing patterns, onboarding processes, professional development initiatives, and retention strategies
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards across adult and youth programs, including OMH, OASAS, Medicaid, Medicare, and managed care guidelines
  • Manage program budgets, monitor financial performance, and maintain oversight of revenue cycle practices to ensure long-term sustainability
  • Strengthen operational workflows such as scheduling, client access, staff productivity, and reporting
  • Lead the development, revision, and implementation of policies and procedures relevant to licensing, audits, and quality improvement activities
  • Promote service delivery that is trauma-informed, recovery-focused, culturally responsive, and evidence-based
  • Use data and quality metrics to guide program enhancements and improve client outcomes in partnership with quality improvement teams
  • Foster collaborative relationships with internal departments, external partners, and community stakeholders
  • Maintain workplace safety by identifying and reporting potential hazards
  • Carry out additional tasks and strategic initiatives assigned by senior leadership

 

Job Requirements

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in New York State
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory and program management experience
  • At least 2 years of experience working within OMH and/or CCBHC programs
  • Experience with OASAS programs is highly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee multisite operations and use data to guide decisions
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and billing systems
  • Candidates with criminal justice–related experience or lived experience are strongly encouraged to apply!
