About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and student-focused Financial Aid Officer/Coordinator to join their team in Brooklyn. This role will primarily support the Federal Work-Study Program, ensuring accurate tracking of student hours, compliance with program requirements, and timely processing of timesheets. The position will act as a key liaison between students, supervisors, and the Financial Aid Office to support efficient operations and a positive student experience.
The base pay for this position is $25 to $30 per hour. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Review, track, and reconcile student worker timesheets to ensure accuracy and compliance with Federal Work-Study regulations
- Monitor student hours worked, ensuring they do not exceed awarded allocations or program limits
- Coordinate with supervisors to confirm reported hours match approved schedules and department records
- Serve as a point of contact for students and supervisors regarding Federal Work-Study policies, processes, and troubleshooting timesheet issues
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate records of student employment activity
- Assist with compliance reporting and audit preparation as required by institutional, state, and federal guidelines
- Support audits and reviews related to the Work-Study program
- Provide general administrative support within the Financial Aid Office, including student communications, record maintenance, and program updates
Job Requirements
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Education, Finance, HR, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Experience in financial aid, higher education administration, payroll, or compliance-related roles preferred
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with students, staff, and managers
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with financial aid or payroll systems a plus
- Knowledge of federal student aid regulations, particularly the Federal Work-Study program, preferred but not required (training will be provided)
