About the Opportunity
We are partnered with a major global financial institution that is seeking an experienced Java FIX Engineer to join their team in New York City. This group supports high-performance trading systems across equities and fixed income, working closely with internal stakeholders and external clients. This role blends client-facing FIX connectivity support, Java development for low-latency trading systems, and day-to-day platform/infrastructure support. You’ll join a collaborative engineering team that works hand-in-hand with trading, sales, and external counterparties to ensure seamless connectivity, efficient order flow, and ongoing platform optimization.
The base pay for this position is $70 to $85 per hour. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Act as a technical point of contact for FIX connectivity, onboarding, certification, and production support across multiple asset classes
- Provide hands-on support for OMS routing, client connectivity issues, and live trading inquiries
- Configure and implement connectivity for new clients—including Java-based integration work and FIX messaging setup
- Collaborate with a global team of FIX Engineers to maintain and enhance client access to the firm’s FIX gateways
- Drive onboarding efforts for equities, derivatives, and algorithmic trading workflows
- Support migrations from legacy routing platforms to newer infrastructure
- Work cross-functionally with trading, technology, QA, and infrastructure teams to ensure stable, scalable connectivity solutions
Job Requirements
- 5–10 years of hands-on FIX protocol experience, including FIX connectivity engineering and certification work
- Backend Java development experience supporting real-time or trading-related systems
- Strong background with FIX Engines and high-touch or low-latency trading environments
- Proficiency with UNIX, SQL, XML, and messaging technologies (TIBCO, JMS, Solace, etc.)
- Experience with Sybase or similar relational databases; ability to interpret or refactor stored procedures
- Solid understanding of electronic trading workflows, market structure, and OMS/EMS platforms
- Prior exposure to third-party connectivity providers or vendor systems (e.g., Fidessa, Bloomberg, NYFIX, SS&C)
