Mental Health Counselor – Community-Based Recovery Services

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a Mental Health Counselor (LMSW, LMFT, LMHC, or LCAT) in Brooklyn, New York to provide community-based mental health services to individuals living with mental health conditions, substance use histories, or physical disabilities. This role is focused on helping clients achieve greater independence, stability, and personal growth through individualized counseling and skill-building interventions. Working within a person-centered, strengths-based framework, the LMHC will provide support and treatment services. These services aim to remove barriers to daily living, employment, housing, education, and community integration.

The annual base salary range is $60,000 to $78,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct goal-oriented, solution-focused interventions to support clients in achieving stability and personal recovery goals
  • Perform assessments, service planning, crisis prevention, and therapeutic interventions tailored to each individual
  • Provide individual and family psychotherapy and counseling to address behavioral health challenges
  • Deliver mobile treatment services to clients who face difficulties accessing traditional site-based care
  • Coordinate with external providers and community resources to enhance clients’ support networks
  • Assist clients in building coping skills, improving daily functioning, and developing independent living skills
  • Provide rehabilitation counseling and psychoeducation to help clients engage in meaningful life roles
  • Support clients in strengthening social, vocational, and educational skills to foster long-term success
  • Maintain a caseload of approximately 25 clinical service hours per week
  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including housing specialists, legal advocates, workforce development professionals, and other service providers
  • Assist clients in developing personalized recovery goals and navigating challenges such as employment, housing, and financial independence

 

Job Requirements

  • Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or equivalent clinical licensure (LMSW, LMFT, LMHC, or LCAT)
  • Experience working with individuals facing mental health challenges, substance use recovery, and social barriers
  • Strong understanding of person-centered and trauma-informed care
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a diverse professional team
  • Comfortable traveling within the community to provide offsite services as needed
