About the Opportunity
We are seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join an outpatient behavioral health program in New York City that serves adolescents and adults, including individuals impacted by the criminal legal system. The NP will work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive psychiatric care, support recovery, and contribute to an integrated model that blends mental health, substance use treatment, and primary care coordination.
This position involves performing assessments, providing medication management, and collaborating closely with therapists, nurses, peer staff, and medical providers. The focus is on delivering person-centered services rooted in evidence-based practice and trauma-informed approaches.
The annual base salary range is $150,000 to $170,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct psychiatric evaluations and clinical assessments for new and existing clients
- Provide ongoing medication management, monitor treatment response, and educate clients on potential medication effects
- Carry a caseload of scheduled follow-up visits and initial psychiatric evaluations each day
- Offer supportive, empathetic care to clients and their families while promoting engagement in treatment
- Address urgent clinical needs, including responding to walk-ins or individuals with identified risk factors
- Work collaboratively with clinicians and nursing staff to contribute to individualized treatment plans
- Support integrated care efforts by coordinating with primary care partners and substance use specialists
- Deliver services aligned with recovery-oriented, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed care principles
- Utilize best practices for treating co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions
- Apply evidence-based models and maintain adherence to clinical standards for Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics
- Provide care that considers each client’s cultural background, language needs, justice involvement, developmental stage, and identity
- Participate in maintaining a safe environment by reporting hazards or unsafe conditions
Job Requirements
- Nurse Practitioner with psychiatric training (PMHNP)
- Active New York State NP license; national certification preferred or in progress
- Current DEA registration; eligibility to prescribe controlled substances
- Registered or eligible for NYS OPRA enrollment and Health Commerce System access
- Experience working with individuals with mental illness and those with higher-risk needs
- Not listed on federal or state exclusion databases; must obtain an NPI and Medicare provider enrollment
- Possession of a buprenorphine waiver (MAT) or ability to complete required training within six months
- Background working with individuals involved in the criminal justice system
- Familiarity with integrated behavioral health models and risk assessment
