About the Opportunity
Our client, a provider of technology and communications solutions, is seeking a Financial Controller in New York City to oversee the accounting and reporting function while partnering closely with the Chief Financial Officer. This individual will be responsible for driving day-to-day financial operations, ensuring accuracy in financial statements, and providing strategic insights to support leadership decisions. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and the confidence to question and improve existing processes in the best interest of the organization. Integrity, leadership, and a proactive approach are essential to succeed in this role. This is a contract position with great opportunity for conversion.
The base pay for this position is $70 to $80 per hour . Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead the finance department, overseeing accounting, reporting, billing, collections, payables, payroll, and tax functions
- Manage and mentor finance staff, including hiring, training, and professional development
- Establish and maintain financial policies, internal controls, and compliance with all regulatory requirements
- Oversee accounting systems, chart of accounts, and treasury functions such as cash management, bank activity, and wire transfers
- Deliver accurate journal entries, reconciliations, and monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements
- Prepare management reports and provide analysis to support strategic decision-making
- Partner with external auditors, tax advisors, and payroll/tax vendors to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Collaborate with senior leadership to shape business policies, manage vendor contracts, and identify cost-saving opportunities
- Ensure proper oversight of business insurance programs
Job Requirements
- 10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including team leadership
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and internal controls
- Skilled communicator with proven ability to collaborate across departments
- Advanced proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, modeling)
- Experience with QuickBooks or similar ERP/accounting software
- Highly organized, adaptable, and effective in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment
