About the Opportunity
Our client, a rapidly growing, private equity–backed services company with a national footprint, is seeking a Controller (Real Estate Services) to build and lead a best-in-class accounting function during a period of transformational growth. This is a high-impact, strategic role offering leadership over accounting systems, team development, reporting, and process integration as the firm expands through frequent acquisitions and invests in its platform.
The annual base salary range is $175,000 to $275,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Establish and scale a modern accounting infrastructure for both holding company and operating subsidiaries, in partnership with the CFO
- Build, lead, and mentor accounting teams; recruit, train, and develop staff and drive a transparent, collaborative culture
- Prepare timely and accurate financial reporting, including monthly closes, reconciliations, and reports to key stakeholders
- Partner in the creation of strategic plans, budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial models; provide variance and KPI analysis
- Ensure GAAP compliance, build internal controls, and manage reporting processes around revenue, receivables, payables, fixed assets, leases, tax, and payroll
- Oversee treasury and risk management, optimize capital structure, and manage relationships with banks and lenders
- Lead audit and external accountant relationships, ensuring error-free and timely filings, audits, and tax compliance at all levels
- Drive process improvements and automation initiatives that streamline and integrate financial and operational reporting
- Manage financial system implementations and third-party service providers for accounting technology and integrations
- Support ongoing M&A activity by rapidly integrating acquisitions into the accounting framework and supporting financial due diligence
- Foster strong cross-functional partnerships, occasionally traveling to the field to connect with local teams and understand business drivers
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field; active or inactive CPA required
- Public accounting foundation (audit preferred), with subsequent experience in an operating business
- Demonstrated accounting leadership, ideally within acquisitive, high-growth or PE-backed environments
- Solid understanding of GAAP and business combinations (ASC 805 experience a plus)
- Strong process improvement and systems implementation experience
- Prior work in services-oriented or real estate-related businesses is highly valued
- Based in New York (or strong ties to the NYC area)
