About the Opportunity
Our client, an innovative technology-driven hedge fund, is seeking a Management Company Accountant to join its finance team in San Francisco. With a proven track record, strong institutional support, and impressive performance, the firm offers a fast-paced, collaborative environment where top finance talent can make an immediate impact. This is a broad-based accounting role with exposure across management company operations, reporting, and strategic support for senior leadership.
The annual base salary range is $175,000 to $250,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage the general ledger for management company and related entities, overseeing monthly close, journal entries, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, and financial reporting
- Oversee accounts payable—vendor onboarding, invoice review, payment processing, and reconciliations
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes across the business
- Administer payroll functions and employee benefit program oversight
- Coordinate closely with external tax advisors on management company and partner-level tax filings, partner elections, and tax documentation (1099s, 1065s, K-1s)
- Track partner capital activity, allocations, and related general ledger entries
- Develop and update accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls, focusing on efficiency and risk management of cash, payments, and recurring activities
- Manage fixed asset accounting, capitalization, and depreciation schedules
- Collaborate with team members, department heads, and external stakeholders to support accounting and financial queries
- Interface with banking institutions, manage treasury activities, and reporting
- Participate in process improvements, system enhancements, and operational efficiency projects
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- 5-7 years of accounting experience in financial services, with at least 3+ years focused on management company accounting (hedge fund or similar alternative asset management environment preferred)
- Expertise in monthly close, general ledger, accounts payable, cash management, financial reporting, and system/process improvements
- Advanced Excel skills and fluency with accounting software (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Concur, Expensify, or similar systems a plus)
- Strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, and ability to work across departments
- Experience designing policies and procedures, implementing controls, and supporting process automation initiatives
- Comfortable working in a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and high-performance team environment
- Excellent communication, vendor management, and customer service skills
Preferred Skills
- Experience with tax compliance, multi-state operations, and basic employee benefit and payroll functions
- Familiarity with fund accounting concepts, service provider contracts, and financial system implementations
