About the Opportunity
We are seeking a compassionate, experienced, and highly motivated Behavioral Health Specialist to join our client’s Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team in the Bronx, NY. The ideal candidate will hold a Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) or a related behavioral health field and possess a minimum of two years of direct experience working within an ACT team or similar community-based mental health setting. The ACT Behavioral Health Specialist provides intensive, community-based mental health services to individuals with serious and persistent mental illness (SPMI), co-occurring substance use disorders, and significant functional impairments. This position emphasizes person-centered care, recovery-oriented support, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
The base pay for this position is $28 to $31 per hour. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Deliver individualized therapeutic interventions and recovery-focused support to clients in community settings (homes, shelters, streets, etc.)
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary ACT team, including psychiatry, nursing, substance use counselors, vocational specialists, and peer support staff
- Conduct comprehensive behavioral health assessments, risk evaluations, and crisis interventions
- Develop, implement, and regularly update person-centered treatment plans in collaboration with clients and the team
- Provide supportive counseling, psychoeducation, and skills training in areas such as symptom management, daily living, and interpersonal relationships
- Assist clients with accessing housing, benefits, healthcare, employment, and social supports
- Participate in daily team meetings and regular case consultations to ensure coordinated care
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in compliance with agency and regulatory standards
- Engage in on-call rotation and respond to crises as needed, including after hours
- Advocate for clients and work collaboratively with community partners, legal systems, and medical providers
Job Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW), Counseling, Psychology, or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with an ACT team or in a similar intensive community-based mental health setting
- Demonstrated understanding of severe mental illnesses, co-occurring disorders, trauma-informed care, and harm reduction
- Strong clinical judgment, crisis management skills, and ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Licensure or license-eligibility (LMSW) in the state of NY preferred, but not required
