Assistant Director of Transitional Housing

About the Opportunity

Our client is a prominent nonprofit organization in New York City that provides permanent housing and supportive services to help end homelessness. They are seeking an Assistant Director of Transitional Housing to provide leadership and support to their transitional housing program, focusing on empowering individuals experiencing homelessness to achieve stability and self-sufficiency. This role requires a compassionate leader with a strong background in harm reduction, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed care. The Assistant Director will oversee daily operations, staff management, and program development while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and maintaining the highest quality of services for clients.

The annual base salary range is $72,000 to $82,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in the oversight and implementation of transitional housing programs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and best practices
  • Develop and refine policies and procedures to enhance service delivery and client outcomes
  • Monitor program metrics, ensuring compliance with funding and regulatory requirements
  • Supervise and provide ongoing support to program staff, including case managers, peer specialists, and support staff
  • Facilitate staff training and professional development with a focus on harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and crisis intervention
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture that prioritizes client dignity and empowerment
  • Provide clinical oversight and guidance to staff managing complex client cases
  • Implement harm reduction strategies and crisis intervention practices to address the diverse needs of clients
  • Collaborate with other community providers and stakeholders to coordinate wraparound services for clients
  • Assist the Director in budget management, reporting, and grant compliance
  • Participate in program evaluations and audits, ensuring operational excellence
  • Represent the organization at community meetings and advocacy events as needed

 

Job Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) required. LMSW would be a plus
  • Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience in a related setting (e.g., homeless services, crisis intervention, harm reduction, or transitional housing)
  • Strong clinical experience with vulnerable populations, including those experiencing homelessness, substance use disorders, and mental health challenges
