About the Opportunity
Our client, a renowned international law firm, is seeking a Competitive Intelligence Analyst to join its team in New York City, with a focus on debt markets. The position plays a key role in analyzing debt markets and identifying actionable insights that drive the firm’s business development, restructuring, and client engagement strategies.
The annual base salary range is $80,000 to $100,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Analyze debt markets and company-specific developments using financial data tools (e.g., Bloomberg, Capital IQ, Debtwire, and similar platforms) to identify actionable opportunities within restructuring, credit, and distressed-situations work.
- Review bankruptcy and restructuring filings to prepare concise summaries highlighting key stakeholders, events, and implications.
- Develop detailed market briefs and “tear sheets” summarizing findings across industries, debt issuances, and major transactions.
- Conduct research on clients, prospects, competitors, and industry trends to support firm-wide business development initiatives.
- Collaborate with Client Development and practice-area leadership to provide tailored research for pursuits, events, and strategic growth planning.
- Create and maintain tracking systems and databases to monitor clients, prospects, and market activity — proactively identifying opportunities for engagement.
- Translate complex financial data into clear insights and recommendations for partners and firm leadership.
- Provide benchmarking analysis and competitive intelligence on peer firms, client activity, and emerging financial trends.
- Present findings and recommendations through clear, well-designed reports and presentations.
- Contribute to the development of improved research workflows, including the use of automation and emerging tools such as generative AI for enhanced data analysis
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or data-related certification preferred
- 2–7 years of experience in research, analytics, or business development within a professional services, financial, or consulting environment
- Demonstrated familiarity with financial markets and corporate debt instruments; exposure to restructuring, distressed credit, or special situations preferred
- Strong proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and market databases (e.g., Bloomberg, Capital IQ, PitchBook, Debtwire, Reorg, FactSet, etc.)
- Experience with Power BI or other data visualization tools a plus
- Exceptional analytical, writing, and communication skills — able to synthesize large datasets into clear, actionable insights
- Comfortable managing multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to partner effectively across business development, marketing, and practice groups
- High attention to detail, professional discretion, and a commitment to quality and accuracy
