IT Business Analyst

About the Opportunity

Our client, a global leader in commodities and energy trading, is seeking an IT Business Analyst with expertise in the US Power markets for their New York City office. This role will drive end-to-end business analysis and requirements gathering to support the buildout and optimization of physical and financial power trading systems for a growing energy trading platform.

The annual base salary range is $150,000 to $200,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Gather and document functional requirements for the full power trading lifecycle, partnering with stakeholders across Trading, Operations, Risk, and Support Services
  • Write user stories and acceptance criteria to translate business needs into actionable technology deliverables
  • Participate in Agile scrum ceremonies and collaborate with developers to ensure delivery meets requirements
  • Document and oversee test scenarios; conduct and support both functional and integration testing activities
  • Facilitate user acceptance testing in partnership with business change teams, and assist in preparing training materials
  • Provide subject matter expertise for the selection, implementation, and optimization of ETRM solutions, including power and gas trading (experience with Endur a plus)
  • Support the analysis and mapping of business processes for physical and financial power trading, with future-state integration goals

 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience as a business analyst in a commodities trading or financial services environment, with deep understanding of the trade lifecycle (capture, operations, risk, back office)
  • Familiarity with ETRM and scheduling solutions in US power markets; Endur experience a strong advantage
  • Working knowledge of natural gas, oil, or metals trading highly valued
  • Hands-on Agile/SCRUM business analysis experience
  • Demonstrated ability to document functional requirements, write user stories, and facilitate testing on complex, multi-location projects
  • Strong communication, presentation, and relationship skills—able to interact at all levels, locally and remotely
  • Skilled in business analysis tools and techniques; Business Analysis certification or formal training preferred
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, SQL (Sybase, Oracle, SQL Server), and reporting tools such as SAP Business Objects or Power BI desirable
  • Experience with workflow automation and document management systems such as OpenText Content Server a plus
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team
