About the Opportunity
Our client, a highly regarded law firm in New York City, is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Legal Research Associate to support the firm’s attorneys with comprehensive legal and business research. This role is responsible for handling a wide range of legislative, regulatory, corporate, transactional, and litigation research requests, including SEC filings, precedent language, governance matters, deal activity, and court dockets.
The Legal Research Associate will provide research and data to support internal publications, attorney training, seminars, and client-facing materials, while also managing alerts and ongoing monitoring for filings, news, and case developments. Additional responsibilities include coordinating with third-party research vendors, assisting with onboarding and training of new attorneys and paralegals, and evaluating research tools and resources to recommend improvements.
Please note this role sits on site in the office, with the following schedule:
- Monday: 11:30 AM – 7:30 PM
- Tuesday-Friday: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
The annual base salary range is $110,000 to $140,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from the posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other factors. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Handle legislative, regulatory, market, and statistical research requests
- Provide data for internal publications, training materials, seminars, and client-facing content
- Conduct SEC-related research, including current and historical filings, precedent language, and agreement review
- Perform corporate and transactional research on companies, individuals, governance matters, and deal activity
- Support litigation research by locating dockets, pleadings, filings, and case materials
- Manage alerts and monitoring for filings, news, dockets, and other updates
- Coordinate with third-party research vendors to ensure quality and confidentiality
- Assist with onboarding and training for new attorneys and paralegals
- Evaluate research tools and resources and recommend improvements
Job Requirements
- Master’s in Library Science required
- 3+ years of research experience in a large law firm or financial services environment
- Strong database research skills (e.g., Westlaw, Lexis, Bloomberg, PACER, Capital IQ, FactSet, Intelligize, Refinitiv, and similar tools)
- Advanced proficiency with Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
- Strong judgment, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize multiple requests under tight deadlines
- Clear written and verbal communication and a strong client-service mindset
