Program Director of Homeless Services

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a Program Director of Homeless Services in Queens, NY to lead and oversee programs that address the needs of individuals and families experiencing homelessness. The Program Director will be responsible for the overall administration, management, and development of services, ensuring program effectiveness, compliance with funding requirements, and alignment with the organization’s mission. This role requires at least five years of social services experience, including experience managing teams and programs in the homelessness sector.

The annual base salary range is $80,000 to $87,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the homeless services program, including shelter operations, outreach initiatives, and housing support services
  • Supervise, mentor, and support a multidisciplinary team of staff, ensuring high-quality service delivery and professional development opportunities
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure program compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as funding requirements
  • Monitor program performance metrics, outcomes, and budgets, and prepare detailed reports for funders and stakeholders
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners, government agencies, and other service providers to enhance program impact and coordinate services
  • Advocate for the needs of the homeless population, providing expertise and input on policy and systems change initiatives
  • Identify funding opportunities and collaborate on grant writing and fundraising efforts to sustain and grow program offerings
  • Ensure a trauma-informed and client-centered approach is integrated across all program services
  • Conduct regular program evaluations to assess effectiveness and implement improvements based on findings

 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Public Administration, or a related field (Master’s Degree preferred)
  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in social services, including at least 2 years in a leadership or program management role
  • Deep understanding of homelessness, housing instability, and related social determinants of health
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, supervise staff, and oversee program operations
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
