About the Opportunity
Our client is a well-established insurance company with nearly 50 years of success, now part of a global holding group while maintaining its independent culture. They are in search of a Senior Tax Accountant to join their team in New York City. This newly created role sits on a small, collaborative tax team within a 50-person finance department, and is open due to a retirement. The position offers broad tax exposure, strong visibility, and partnership with a leading consulting firm. The annual base salary range is $115,000 to $165,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Contribute to the preparation and review of quarterly and annual income tax provisions in alignment with U.S. GAAP and statutory reporting standards
- Oversee the preparation and filing of federal, state, and local income tax returns for both insurance and non-insurance U.S. entities
- Support compliance efforts for various non-income taxes, including sales and use tax, personal property tax, commercial rent tax, and federal excise tax
- Assist in the preparation and review of U.S. informational filings related to foreign entities (e.g., Forms 5471, 8865, 8621), as well as foreign tax credit calculations (Form 1118)
- Provide support during audits conducted by federal, state, and local tax authorities
- Identify opportunities for tax savings and risk mitigation, offering recommendations to improve compliance and reduce audit exposure
- Leverage tax systems and software to enhance work quality, streamline processes, and boost team efficiency
- Collaborate with the Head of Tax to engage external specialists on complex tax matters
- Align tax strategies and activities with broader business and operational goals
- Reconcile financial data and utilize it to fulfill various tax compliance and reporting requirements
- Supervise and direct third-party tax professionals (e.g., PwC associates) who contribute to the organization’s tax function
Job Requirements
- At least 3 years of hands-on tax experience within a public accounting firm or corporate tax environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Familiarity with the insurance or reinsurance industry is a plus
- CPA certification is preferred but not required
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, with advanced skills in Excel
- Exposure to Workday Ledger and Oracle TRCS for tax provision is advantageous, though not mandatory
