Shelter Program Director (LCSW)

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a compassionate Shelter Program Director to lead and oversee operations at our client’s homeless shelter serving adults in the Bronx, New York. The ideal candidate will have a strong clinical background, a deep understanding of the challenges faced by homeless populations, and a proven ability to manage programs and teams effectively. This role requires a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with at least 3 years of experience working with homeless adults. Familiarity with the Department of Homeless Services (DHS) and its processes is highly desirable.

The annual base salary range is $75,000 to $90,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and oversee the daily operations of the shelter, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, client-centered services
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and programs that align with organizational goals and funder requirements
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and funding agreements, including DHS guidelines
  • Supervise, mentor, and provide clinical oversight to a multidisciplinary team, including case managers, clinicians, and support staff
  • Conduct regular team meetings, performance evaluations, and staff development training
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment
  • Oversee client intake, assessment, and individualized service plans, ensuring a trauma-informed and strengths-based approach
  • Monitor client progress and outcomes, addressing barriers to housing stability and overall well-being
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex client situations and provide clinical guidance as needed
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with the Department of Homeless Services, community organizations, and other stakeholders
  • Advocate for resources and services to address the needs of shelter residents
  • Oversee accurate documentation and reporting of client data and program outcomes
  • Prepare and submit reports to funders, stakeholders, and organizational leadership
  • Utilize data to evaluate program effectiveness and inform decision-making

 

Job Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) and current LCSW licensure in NY
  • At least 3 years of experience working with homeless adults in a clinical or program management capacity
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and housing-first principles
  • Proven leadership and management experience, including staff supervision and program oversight
  • Experience working with the Department of Homeless Services (DHS) or similar government agencies
  • Knowledge of shelter operations and funding mechanisms
  • Familiarity with client data management systems and reporting requirements
  • Exceptional leadership and organizational skills
  • Strong clinical acumen and the ability to handle complex client cases
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in program evaluation and data analysis
