About the Opportunity
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Surgical Physician Assistant to join our client’s surgical team in Staten Island, NY. In this role, you will work closely with surgeons to provide high-quality patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures. The ideal candidate will have a strong surgical background, excellent clinical skills, and a commitment to delivering compassionate and evidence-based care to our patients.
The annual base salary range is $100,000 to $135,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist surgeons in the preoperative evaluation and management of patients, including obtaining medical histories, performing physical examinations, and ordering diagnostic tests as needed
- Participate in surgical procedures as a first or second assistant, providing assistance with exposure, hemostasis, suturing, and other surgical techniques under the direction of the supervising surgeon
- Perform perioperative procedures such as wound closure, dressing changes, and drain removals, ensuring that all postoperative care instructions are provided to patients and their families
- Monitor patients in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) or intensive care unit (ICU) following surgery, assessing vital signs, managing pain, and addressing any immediate postoperative complications
- Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team, including nurses, anesthesiologists, and ancillary staff, to coordinate patient care and ensure optimal outcomes
- Provide education and counseling to patients and their families regarding the surgical procedure, expected outcomes, and postoperative care instructions
- Document all patient encounters, procedures, and clinical assessments accurately and thoroughly in the electronic medical record (EMR) system, in compliance with regulatory requirements and institutional policies
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, case conferences, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety, satisfaction, and clinical outcomes
- Stay current with advances in surgical techniques, perioperative care practices, and evidence-based medicine by participating in continuing education activities and professional development opportunities
- Maintain professional licensure and certification as a Physician Assistant, adhering to all state regulatory requirements and professional standards of practice
Job Requirements
- Current certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C)
- Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Physician Assistant in New York
- Previous experience working as a Physician Assistant in a surgical setting preferred, but not required
- New grads are encouraged to apply
