About the Opportunity
Our client, a rapidly growing multi-strategy hedge fund with over $10B in AUM, is seeking a Tax Manager to join their lean, high-impact tax team in New York City. Renowned for their record-breaking launch and continued success in the hedge fund industry, this firm offers a rare opportunity to take on a career-defining role with broad exposure. This position goes far beyond traditional compliance—you’ll be involved in tax research, automation projects, corporate accounting, and cross-functional initiatives. The opening arises due to an internal move into a tax technology role, underscoring the firm’s strong culture of internal mobility and career advancement. You’ll report directly to the U.S. Head of Tax and have visibility up to the Global Head of Tax, with the chance to make a meaningful impact across the organization.
The annual base salary range is $150,000 to $250,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage U.S. Federal, State, and Local tax compliance for both partnership and corporate entities by coordinating with external providers and streamlining internal workflows
- Partner with teams across the organization to deliver tax guidance on transactions, restructurings, and business operations
- Support tax controversy matters, including handling notices, audits, and regulatory inquiries
- Respond to day-to-day tax-related questions and assist with ongoing planning efforts
- Design and implement tax strategies aimed at optimizing the firm’s overall tax posture
- Lead initiatives to improve tax reporting processes and ensure efficient, accurate compliance
- Conduct in-depth tax research affecting both the funds and the management company
- Monitor and analyze developments in U.S. and international tax laws, including Pillar II, Section 174, and Country-by-Country Reporting (CbCR)
- Support State and Local tax obligations and planning, such as income tax, composite filings, and Sales & Use Tax
- Contribute to international tax efforts, including cross-border planning and compliance, where applicable
- Prepare and manage global tax reporting requirements such as FATCA, CRS, and CbCR
Job Requirements
- 5–8 years of relevant experience at a leading accounting firm, with a strong focus on hedge fund taxation; prior in-house experience is a plus
- Bachelor’s degree
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to conduct thorough research and draft clear documentation
- Comfortable with technology and capable of identifying and implementing automation opportunities
- Independent, proactive, and capable of generating creative solutions
- Thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail
- Experience in process improvement initiatives is a plus
