About the Opportunity:
Our client, a leading teaching hospital on Long Island, is seeking a skilled Pathologist Assistant for a full-time contract opportunity. This role supports anatomic pathology operations in a high-volume, academically driven environment. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, efficient, and experienced in grossing a wide range of surgical specimens.
The estimated base pay for these positions are $95 to $100 per hour. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities:
- Accession, label, and bill specimen containers and requisitions accurately and efficiently
- Perform gross examination, dissection, and dictation of surgical specimens in accordance with departmental protocols
- Utilize voice recognition software and Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) for documentation and specimen tracking
- Ensure accurate reconciliation of cassettes and slides, including verification of billing charges
- Select and prepare appropriate tissue samples for decalcification and submission to histology
- Maintain proper disposal of tissue and chemical waste in compliance with safety standards
- Complete daily assignments in an organized and timely manner while supporting team workflows
- Participate in departmental meetings and quality assurance activities
- Maintain high standards of quality control across all pathology processes
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program (Master’s preferred)
- Licensed as a Pathologist Assistant through the New York State Department of Education (required)
- Certification as a Pathologist Assistant with clinical training in Anatomic Pathology
- Strong knowledge of grossing techniques and pathology workflows
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Proficiency with LIS systems and general computer applications
