About the Opportunity
Our client, a global multi-strategy hedge fund, is seeking a Controller or Assistant Controller (level commensurate with experience) to oversee all aspects of accounting, financial reporting, and operational controls for their Collateralized Loan Obligation (CLO) vehicles in New York City. This critical role sits at the intersection of structured credit, fund accounting, and regulatory compliance, interacting closely with trustees, administrators, and internal leadership to ensure the integrity and transparency of CLO-related financial information.
The annual base salary range is $140,000 to $200,000, with total compensation up to $275,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Oversee end-to-end accounting operations for CLO platforms—including collateral accounting, waterfall/distribution mechanics, and compliance test reporting (OC/IC, collateral quality)
- Supervise and review trustee and payment date reports, ensuring alignment with internal records and accuracy of all calculations
- Coordinate with external trustees and fund administrators: reconcile collateral positions, NAV calculations, and cash activity
- Review and validate waterfalls and payment calculations prior to each distribution date
- Analyze and investigate daily/monthly P&L for CLO strategies, resolving breaks among trading systems, administrators, and trustee reports
- Prepare and review management reporting packages on CLO performance, fees, and risk/return metrics for investment and executive teams
- Support attribution analysis for realized/unrealized gains, interest income, and other performance drivers
- Oversee preparation and review of financial statements, investor communications, and capital statements related to CLO offerings
- Serve as the primary point of contact for administrators, trustees, and auditors on all accounting/reporting matters and timelines
- Lead annual audit efforts—including preparation of schedules and responses to auditor inquiries
- Enhance internal controls and streamline reporting workflows through automation and process improvements
- Ensure compliance with governing documents (e.g., indentures, collateral management agreements) across filings and internal reporting
- Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Legal, Compliance, and Portfolio Management teams on new issuances, refinancings, and wind-downs
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA strongly preferred
- 5–10+ years of relevant experience in fund accounting, structured credit, or CLO administration (from asset management, fund administrator, trustee, or public accounting)
- Direct hands-on experience with CLO structures, including collateral accounting, waterfall mechanics, and reporting requirements
- Expertise in loan and credit instruments, US GAAP, and relevant regulatory frameworks
- Track record working directly with trustees, administrators, and auditors
- Advanced Excel skills; familiarity with specialized accounting or CLO platforms (such as Wall Street Office, ClearPar, Geneva, etc.) a plus
