About the Opportunity
Our client, a leading global asset manager, is seeking an AVP, Financial Policy to join a high-impact team focused on transaction support and technical accounting for innovative investments. This position operates at the crossroads of investments, insurance, and accounting policy—delivering technical expertise on new transactions, emerging standards, and policy initiatives for a multi-asset platform. The role can be based in New York, Connecticut, El Segundo, or Des Moines.
The annual base salary range is $182,000 to $240,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead technical accounting research and assessment across US GAAP and US Statutory, focusing on investment structures, consolidation, asset transfers, derivatives, and financial instruments
- Prepare technical accounting memos and documentation for complex transactions and policy interpretations
- Advise on accounting treatment for structured assets, alternatives, CLOs, and non-routine portfolio investments to ensure accurate reporting and compliance
- Monitor, evaluate, and communicate the impact of emerging accounting standards, including NAIC, SVO, and FASB updates
- Develop and drive implementation strategies for new accounting guidance, from impact analysis through controls enhancement and communication
- Serve as a subject matter expert for investment teams, supporting structuring decisions, financial reporting, and transaction execution
- Maintain a robust SOX control environment for investment-related accounting policy
- Lead and contribute to special projects involving technical analysis, standard-setting impact, and cross-functional process improvement
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required; CPA strongly preferred
- 8+ years of technical accounting and/or accounting advisory experience within financial services
- Deep understanding of US GAAP; experience with US Statutory accounting is a plus
- Background in asset management, banking, capital markets, or insurance (insurance experience preferred)
- Strong technical experience with alternative investments, structured finance, securitizations, and consolidation topics
- National Office public accounting experience is highly valued
- Proven ability to independently research, resolve, and explain complex technical issues to senior leaders and business partners
