About the Opportunity
Our client, a major private credit manager, is seeking a Fund Controller for their US operations, based full-time in Houston, TX. This executive leadership role oversees accounting and financial reporting for private credit funds, including direct lending portfolios, and directly supervises a multi-city fund accounting team. The position functions as the key financial steward for the platform, driving process improvements, systems implementation, and rigorous financial compliance as the organization continues its growth trajectory.
The annual base salary range is $300,000 to $400,000, with total comp up to $550,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Oversee accounting, financial reporting, and compliance for private credit funds and direct lending strategies
- Prepare and review NAV calculations, financial statements, and investor reports; ensure fund records adhere to accounting standards and regulatory requirements
- Supervise loan-level accounting—including accruals, PIK interest, amortization, and fee income
- Reconcile fund positions and transactions with administrators and custodians; maintain accurate records across integrated financial platforms
- Monitor compliance with credit agreements, fund terms, and internal controls
- Support deal closings, portfolio management activity, capital calls, and distributions in partnership with portfolio management, legal, audit, and operations teams
- Lead process enhancements and systems upgrades to streamline financial workflows and accuracy
- Directly manage fund accounting professionals across multiple office locations, providing mentorship and contributing to organizational design as the team grows
- Serve as a key advisor to the CFO and partner on special projects and cross-team initiatives
Job Requirements
- 15–25 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles, with recent/private credit fund accounting responsibilities
- Minimum 4–5 years’ experience focused in private credit, direct lending, or similar institutional credit strategies
- Deep technical expertise in fund accounting, private credit and direct lending products, and regulatory/reporting compliance
- Demonstrated experience managing and mentoring fund finance/accounting teams
- Strong leadership, project management, and process improvement skills, with hands-on approach for systems implementation
- Excellent communication and executive presence; experience working across investment, legal, and audit departments
