Medical Director

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a seasoned and compassionate psychiatrist to serve as the Medical Director for a dynamic community-based behavioral health program on Staten Island, NY. This leadership role involves overseeing clinical operations, supporting integrated care initiatives, and mentoring a multidisciplinary team of providers. The Medical Director will collaborate closely with senior program leadership to ensure high-quality, evidence-based psychiatric services are delivered across the continuum of care.

The annual base salary range is $200,000 to $275,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership and oversight for psychiatric services within the behavioral health program
  • Facilitate regular clinical meetings, including case reviews, risk assessments, and utilization discussions
  • Offer clinical consultation and support for complex cases and urgent psychiatric needs
  • Ensure continuity of care by assisting with medication management coverage when needed
  • Guide quality improvement initiatives aligned with clinical benchmarks and regulatory standards (e.g., HEDIS, MIPS)
  • Support onboarding and orientation of new psychiatric staff, including training on clinical systems and documentation practices
  • Conduct chart reviews and provide constructive feedback to enhance clinical performance
  • Participate in recruitment and interviewing of psychiatric providers
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of educational sessions for staff and trainees
  • Supervise psychiatric nurse practitioners, residents, and students as appropriate
  • Partner with site leadership to optimize clinical workflows and patient outcomes

 

Job Requirements

  • MD or DO with active New York State medical license
  • Board certification in Psychiatry; additional certification or experience in Addiction Medicine strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in community mental health and substance use treatment
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and supervise clinical teams
  • Comfortable using telehealth platforms and electronic health records
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Supervising psychiatric trainees or early-career providers
  • Working with diverse populations and a broad range of psychiatric diagnoses
  • Familiarity with integrated care models and interdisciplinary collaboration
