About the Opportunity
Our client, a leading global multi-strategy hedge fund, is seeking a Senior Fund Accountant to join their New York City team. This key contributor role is responsible for managing the monthly close, shadow accounting, reconciliations, and control processes in partnership with internal teams and third-party fund administrators. The position offers significant visibility as the firm scales and emphasizes process improvement, automation, and the thoughtful integration of AI in accounting workflows.
The annual base salary range is $110,000 to $140,000, with total comp up to $200,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead and execute the monthly close process, including preparation and review of journal entries, accruals, prepaids, and NAV-related items
- Maintain ownership of assigned close deliverables, proactively managing timelines, dependencies, and communication across stakeholders
- Perform shadow accounting and detailed reconciliations between internal records and those of third-party administrators (cash, P&L, fees, expenses)
- Oversee documentation and resolution of reconciliation breaks; maintain tie-outs and durable workpapers
- Review and validate administrator deliverables; coordinate with internal/external teams for issue escalation and resolution
- Support cash management through wire preparation, activity reconciliations, and banking/prime broker reporting
- Review investor accounting schedules to confirm accuracy of allocations, management/performance fees, and fund expense structures; ensure outputs are consistent with governing documents
- Contribute to internal controls, audit support (PBC schedules, rollforwards, etc.), and regulatory filings (Form PF and related schedules)
- Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement, automation, and exception-based review using Excel and other tools—including the responsible adoption of AI resources to streamline documentation, analysis, and quality control
Job Requirements
- 5–7+ years’ experience in public accounting (financial services preferred), hedge fund or investment management accounting, or fund administration
- Comprehensive understanding of U.S. GAAP, fund accounting, and the month-end close process
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex reconciliations and resolve breaks across multiple data sources
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills; ability to balance competing deadlines and adjust priorities
- Strong documentation habits, critical thinking, and an ownership mindset
- Effective communicator with ability to coordinate tasks and deliverables across internal and external teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in shadow accounting and oversight of fund administrators
- Experience supporting regulatory filings (Form PF, etc.)
- Familiarity with systems such as Workday, Concur, or similar trading/GL platforms
- Track record of driving process improvements, adopting new tools, and improving controls and workflows
