About the Opportunity
Our client, a diversified financial services platform, is seeking a Tax Senior Manager to oversee tax accounting and compliance processes in either New York, NY or Des Moines, IA. This high-impact role is responsible for managing the quarterly ASC 740 tax provision cycle, coordinating federal and state tax filings, and leading process improvement and SOX-compliant internal controls for a multi-entity corporate structure. The position offers mentoring opportunities and contributes to tax-sensitive analysis and executive decision support.
The annual base salary range is $125,000 to $175,000, with total comp up to $225,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage and review quarterly income tax provisions and accounting for all domestic and foreign entities in accordance with ASC 740
- Prepare and/or review effective tax rate calculations, current tax payables/receivables, tax basis balance sheets, return-to-provision reconciliations, and SEC tax disclosures (10-Q, 10-K)
- Oversee filing of federal and state tax returns, estimates, and extensions; coordinate with outside service providers when necessary
- Review and reconcile inter-company tax settlements under tax sharing agreements
- Proactively identify, plan, and implement workflow/process improvements and technology enhancements for tax provision and compliance functions
- Maintain, execute, and document SOX-compliant internal controls; provide audit support and documentation for internal/external auditors
- Mentor and develop tax team members, especially those responsible for preparing tax workpapers
- Provide tax analytic support for business initiatives and contribute to ad hoc tax-related projects
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required
- Minimum 6 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years in tax provision (ASC 740 preparation/review and financial reporting)
- CPA preferred
- Proven ability to manage corporate federal and state income tax compliance and return processes
- Experience developing, executing, and documenting SOX internal controls, including audit support
- Strong process improvement and analytical skills; able to thrive in a dynamic, growing organization
- Excellent mentoring, written, and verbal communication skills
- Experience in insurance, annuities, or financial services preferred
- Familiarity with OneSource and/or CorpTax software is a plus
