About the Opportunity
Our client is a real estate development and management firm located in Washington D.C. that is adding a Property Accountant to support the Manager of Accounting and Controller of the company. They are PE backed; acquiring new properties and anticipating to add 10 additional assets by the year end. This position will work with the Controller to help build out new processes for the accounting and finance function to a best-in-class operation. You’ll have oversight of the day-to-day operations, assist the Controller with accounting, AR, AP, creating new metrics, manage cash and work with the asset management team on new acquisitions.
The annual base salary range is $80,000 to $100,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Responsibilities
- Process accounts payable via Yardi for utilities, operating expenses, real estate taxes, property insurance, and construction costs
- Assist the Accounting Manager and Controller with bi-weekly AP runs
- Post monthly commercial billings and record tenant rent payments
- Manage tenant ledgers, posting adjustment billings and late fees per lease agreements
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations for properties and holding companies
- Maintain accrual, prepaid, property tax, and depreciation schedules for each property, posting the relevant monthly journal entries
- Support the accounting team and coordinate with external auditors for the annual audit process
- Assist Accounting and Asset Management with the annual property budget process
- Aid in the annual CAM reconciliation process
- Assist the Accounting Manager in tracking CapEx and TI project progress across the portfolio to ensure timely project completion.
- Support Asset Management and Accounting with the onboarding of new acquisitions, including recording purchase price allocations, assisting with tenant onboarding, and ensuring all property tax and utility information is acquired from the seller
- Provide recommendations to the Accounting Manager on process improvements and internal control enhancements
- Handle ad-hoc requests
Requirements
- 2+ years of real estate experience
- 2+ years of accounting/ finance experience
- Must have a bachelors degree in a related field
- Yardi experience is a huge plus
