About the Opportunity
We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) with expertise in substance use treatment to join our client’s behavioral health team in Briarwood, NY. This role focuses on delivering targeted interventions and support to male shelter residents struggling with substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, and housing instability. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of relevant experience working in substance use treatment and possess a strong understanding of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and motivational interviewing practices. This is a field and site-based position requiring strong engagement, clinical, and case management skills.
The annual base salary range is $68,000 to $70,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments and substance use evaluations for shelter residents
- Develop individualized treatment and recovery plans in collaboration with clients and interdisciplinary team members
- Provide individual and group counseling services using evidence-based approaches (e.g., CBT, MI, relapse prevention)
- Offer crisis intervention and support in collaboration with shelter staff and external providers
- Monitor and document client progress, adapting interventions as needed to support recovery goals
- Coordinate care with primary medical providers, psychiatric services, detox/rehab programs, and other community supports
- Assist clients with navigating barriers to care, including housing, insurance, and transportation
- Provide psychoeducation around addiction, coping skills, relapse prevention, and harm reduction
- Maintain timely and accurate documentation in compliance with agency and regulatory standards
- Participate in case conferences, clinical supervision, and team meetings
Job Requirements
- Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in good standing in the state of employment
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in substance use treatment or behavioral health with a focus on addiction recovery
- Familiarity with trauma-informed, person-centered, and harm reduction models
- Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills
- Ability to build rapport and work effectively with underserved, high-risk populations in a shelter setting
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Flexibility to adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced work environment
