About the Opportunity
Our client is an asset management firm who has recently acquired an insurance company that has been around for almost 40 years. They are seeking a Controller to have oversight of the corporate accounting, investment accounting, cash management and filing of the regulatory reporting. This is an exciting time to be with the company as they are growing. They operate full-time in their New York City office.
The annual base salary range is $150,000 to $250,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Be responsible for supervising all facets of corporate accounting, investment accounting, cash management, and treasury services
- Ensure the accurate and punctual submission of annual/quarterly statements to NAIC, AM Best, and MCAS
- Serve as the primary liaison for external and/or regulatory audits
- Direct the preparation of audited financial statements and disclosures
- Supervise banking, custody, and TPA relationships
- Evaluate monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages and associated reconciliations
- Stay abreast of new (and/or modified) accounting pronouncements to guarantee compliance with Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) and accurate adoption of all new accounting standards
- Provide continuous guidance on the accounting implications of new products or proposed transactions
- Establish objectives, delegating tasks, and offering direction on daily operations and special projects within the Finance department
- Oversee and conduct the annual on-site audits of multiple third-party administrators
- Fulfill ad hoc requests from management as delegated
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required (CPA preferred)
- 8+ years of related experience in the life insurance industry required
- Strong understanding of Statutory Accounting Principles. Familiarity with GAAP life insurance accounting principles
- Ability to research SAP accounting issues and reach technical conclusions
