Payroll Tax Manager

About the Opportunity

Our client, a prominent financial services firm in Manhattan, is seeking a seasoned and detail-oriented Payroll Tax Manager for a full-time onsite position. This leader will oversee comprehensive payroll operations for the U.S., spanning multiple states, and provide mentorship to two payroll professionals, cultivating a high-performing team.

The Payroll Tax Manager will ensure compliance with payroll tax regulations and serve as a subject matter expert on all payroll tax matters. Responsibilities encompass year-end tax reconciliations such as W-2s, payroll reporting and analysis in partnership with Accounting and HR leadership, and oversight of benefits administration, open enrollment, employee inquiries, and claims management. The ideal candidate will demonstrate extensive expertise in payroll tax, multi-state operations, and relevant regulations, coupled with strong managerial and technical skills using Excel. Please note, Workday experience is required.

The annual base salary range is $150,000 to $200,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee full-cycle payroll operations, including U.S. (multi-state)
  • Manage and mentor a team of two payroll professionals
  • Ensure compliance with payroll tax regulations; act as a subject matter expert on payroll tax issues
  • Handle year-end tax reconciliations, including W-2s (U.S.)
  • Partner with Accounting and HR leadership on payroll reporting and analysis
  • Lead benefits administration, including open enrollment, employee inquiries, and claims management
  • Maintain accuracy and efficiency in Workday payroll and benefits systems

 

Job Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience of Payroll Tax Experience
  • Must have Multi State Tax Payroll Experience
  • Extensive and thorough knowledge of federal, multi-state, and local wage and hour, garnishment, and tax regulations
  • Must have managerial experience
  • Must have Workday Experience
  • Intermediate/Advanced skills in Excel
