About the Opportunity
Our client is one of the largest community healthcare centers in New York State. They are in search of a School Nurse to be responsible for promoting and maintaining the health and well-being of students in their educational institution in New York City. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a genuine commitment to the overall welfare of students.
The annual base salary range is $70,000 to $90,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct health assessments for students to identify and address any health concerns or conditions
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date health records for each student
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies, accidents, or illnesses within the school setting
- Administer first aid and coordinate with emergency services when necessary
- Administer prescribed medications to students according to physician instructions and school policies
- Maintain a secure and organized system for storing and dispensing medications
- Provide health education to students, staff, and parents on topics such as nutrition, hygiene, and disease prevention
- Collaborate with teachers to integrate health-related topics into the curriculum
- Ensure that all students meet immunization requirements as mandated by state and local regulations
- Keep records of immunizations and communicate with parents about upcoming vaccine schedules
- Offer guidance and support to students with chronic health conditions, ensuring they can fully participate in school activities
- Collaborate with parents, teachers, and other school personnel to develop individual health care plans when necessary
- Conduct vision, hearing, and other health-related screenings as required
- Communicate results to parents and recommend further evaluation or treatment when necessary
- Establish and maintain effective communication with healthcare providers to coordinate care for students with ongoing health needs
- Act as a liaison between the school, parents, and healthcare professionals
Job Requirements
- Current and valid RN license
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing (preferred)
- Experience in pediatric or school nursing is a plus
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations
