Senior Director of Information Systems

About the Opportunity

Our client is a state-of-the-art medical facility that specializes in bringing together expert oncologists, clinical care teams, and researchers to improve cancer care.  They are seeking a Senior Director of Information Systems (IS) for the day-to-day management of oncology information systems and associated infrastructure for the center. The individual will ensure efficient and secure operation of the company’s network, servers, databases, Intranet, clinical applications, system interfaces and equipment, while also managing and overseeing connectivity between the facility and its hospital partners. The Senior Director of IS works closely with the facility’s leadership, clinical staff, physicians, partners, vendors and decision makers to identify, recommend, and support cost-effective technology and applicable solutions for all aspects of the organization.

The annual base salary range is $175,000 to $225,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement all IS policies and procedures, including those for architecture, information security, disaster recovery, purchasing, asset management, and service provision.
  • Oversee and manage all functional and technical application support, including requirements analysis, testing and implementation for clinical systems, together with vendor implementation and support teams
  • Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of all IS systems, including servers, PCs, operating systems, telephones, cellphones, software applications and peripherals
  • Oversee systems development, installation, any associated upgrades and the integration of new systems with existing network infrastructure
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with IS vendors, ensuring their accountability, effectiveness, and their alignment with organizational goals
  • Responsible for negotiating IS vendor service agreements and contracts within the center’s strategic goals and objectives
  • Oversee Cyber Security program in partnership with the vCISO
  • Establish organizational IS structure and staff their function, including responsibilities for hiring, developing, managing, and retaining a high-performance, collaborative and patient-focused team
  • Develop and coordinate all IS related training for all employees
  • Analyze the business and job-related functionality requirements of all departments to determine their technology needs
  • Develop and coordinate collaborative partner relationships to ensure effective, secure connectivity across all company IS interfaces and networks
  • Document network system functions, interfaces and processes for the IS group, clinical team, partners, as well as selected items for other users
  • Acts as IS liaison with partners to coordinate system access, interface testing upgrades, version compatibility, capacity planning, DR, etc
  • Works with Director of Physics to ensure secure, reliable connectivity and data transfer between all imaging equipment, Treatment Planning, Oncology Information applications and other systems to support efficient, secure patient treatment
  • Evaluate adequacy and improve use of existing software applications
  • Develop and adhere to annual technology budget
  • Oversee the development of the company’s application architecture with a focus of system integration
  • Develop and maintain an inventory of IS resources and ensure their effectiveness
  • Ensure all IS related policies and procedures are compliant with  Privacy Rules established under the Health Information Privacy and Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)
  • Support, administer and enforce association policies related to human resource management and development, financial management, confidentiality, conflict of interest, acceptable use of company property and systems, diversity, and information security/privacy
  • Perform other job-related duties, as assigned

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field, required. Master’s Degree, preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience with healthcare Information Systems, in a leadership role
  • Previous experience working in a healthcare environment, preferably with knowledge of Radiation Oncology systems
  • 5 years of clinical application integration and system design
  • Understanding of interface engines and data management
  • Familiarity with ITIL foundational practices in Incident, Problem and Change Management
  • Experience of delivering large enterprise-wide projects and the integration of new applications
  • Comprehensive knowledge of essential IT functions including: network infrastructure, storage, servers, databases, cloud computing, data center operations, disaster recovery, Security, telecommunications and vendor management
  • High level of competency with Windows and UNIX/LINUX operating systems
  • VMWare and/or other server and desktop virtualization technology experience
  • Competency in Citrix and Cloud based environments
  • Experience working with DICOM, HL7, DFT and other appropriate data transfer standard protocols
  • Relational SQL database and query tool experience
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications
