About the Opportunity:
The Safety Technician plays a crucial role in the routine recognition, evaluation, and control of safety and health hazards in the workplace. This full-time contract position requires the routine calibration and inspection of necessary equipment and collaboration with departments to minimize occupational health and safety risks and manage compliance with applicable regulations.
The estimated base pay for these positions are $19.80 to $23.40 per hour. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities:
- Collecting, segregating, and managing hazardous chemical wastes generated throughout the facility.
- Managing hazardous pharmaceutical wastes, radiological, and universal wastes.
- Performing work in accordance with all appropriate Federal, State, and local regulations and standards by OSHA, EPA, DOT, NRC, RCRA.
- Communicating with supervisors regarding policies and procedures for assuring compliance.
- Operating in environments ranging from usual office conditions to “immediately dangerous to life and health” atmospheres.
Job Requirements:
- Associates Degree in Occupational Safety or Environmental Health and Safety or related field (highly preferred).
- 1-3+ years of experience, primarily looking for newly certified candidates starting their careers.
- DOT RCRA certified.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to hazardous material management.
- Basic knowledge of chemistry and related sciences.
- Able to operate a Duke-owned vehicle; valid driver's license required.
- Able to lift 50 lbs. and manipulate 400 lb. drums.
