About the Opportunity:
The Safety Technician role involves the collection, segregation, and management of hazardous chemical wastes generated across various locations, including clinics and research laboratories. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations and standards by OSHA, EPA, DOT, NRC, and RCRA. This is a full-time contract position.
The estimated base pay for these positions are $19.80 to $23.40 per hour. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct hazardous chemical waste collection, segregation, and management.
- Ensure compliance with appropriate Federal, State, and local regulations and standards.
- Liaise with supervisors regarding policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
- Manipulate heavy drums and operate in potentially hazardous environments.
- Use protective clothing and equipment as necessary based on the environment.
Job Requirements:
- Associates Degree in Occupational Safety or Environmental Health and Safety or related field is highly preferred.
- Valid Driver's license and ability to operate Duke owned vehicle.
- 1-3+ years of relevant experience, primarily suited for those newly certified in their career.
- Background in environmental science, EHS, or safety.
- Self-starter, ambitious, and adheres to safety principles.
- DOT RCRA certification.
- Knowledge of hazardous material laws and basic chemistry.
- Ability to utilize computer technology for data access, record maintenance, and report generation.
- Functional oral and written communication skills.
