Ophthalmic Technician – MS Doctors

About the Opportunity:

The Ophthalmic Technician in this full-time contract position performs preliminary screening examinations for physician review, including central and peripheral visual field tests, ocular motility tests, color vision tests, pharmacological pupil tests, tonometry, tonography, and tensilon tonography tests to determine intraocular pressure and pupil testing for size, equality, and reaction prior to dilation. The technician also directs the flow of patients examined by an Eye Center physician, obtains medical and personal data for patient charts, screens patients for conditions excluding ocular examination, arranges for laboratory and other tests, ophthalmic photography, outpatient studies, and patient admissions and surgery as requested by the physician. The technician alleviates patient and family concerns by explaining diagnostic procedures and the method of treatment.

The estimated base pay for these positions are $37.40 to $44.20 per hour. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct preliminary screening examinations for physician review, such as visual field and tonometry tests.
  • Direct the flow of patients, obtain medical and personal data, and screen for conditions excluding ocular examination.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to schedule laboratory tests, photography, and outpatient studies.
  • Monitor, calibrate, and maintain all instruments including bio-microscopes and laser equipment.
  • Sterilize and set up instruments for ophthalmic surgical procedures and assist with surgeries.

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ophthalmic Technician Certification required.
  • Good communication skills with patients and staff.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in English (speak, read, write).
