About the Opportunity:
NYU Suffolk Hospital seeks a skilled Lab Specialist, Lab Tech to join the Laboratory team. The role requires conducting slide-based histological testing, tissue preparation, staining, and quality assurance procedures in accordance with established laboratory protocols and New York State Department of Health regulations. This opportunity suits a detail-oriented laboratory professional committed to high-quality patient care through accurate and timely histological testing. This is a full-time contract position.
The estimated base pay for these positions are $51.15 to $60.45 per hour. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities:
- Prepare the grossing area and gross biopsy specimens.
- Embed, section (cut), and stain tissue specimens for histological examination.
- Prepare tissue specimens for routine and specialized histological procedures while ensuring laboratory quality standards.
- Perform routine staining techniques and assist with special staining procedures as needed.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot histology laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Perform quality assurance activities related to histological testing and procedures.
- Maintain laboratory documentation and records in compliance with New York State Department of Health regulations.
- Adhere to established laboratory policies, safety standards, and approved protocols.
Job Requirements:
- Current New York State Department of Health Technologist License.
- Experience performing histological procedures, including embedding, microtomy, staining, and tissue preparation.
- Knowledge of laboratory quality assurance practices and regulatory requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
