About the Opportunity
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Domestic Violence Social Worker (LMSW required) to join our client’s team in Brooklyn and provide critical support to individuals and families affected by domestic violence. The Domestic Violence Social Worker will offer counseling, advocacy, crisis intervention, and case management services to survivors, helping them navigate legal, emotional, and social systems. This role requires strong knowledge of domestic violence dynamics, trauma-informed care, and a commitment to empowering survivors.
The annual base salary range is $60,000 to $80,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group counseling for survivors of domestic violence, using evidence-based approaches such as trauma-focused therapy and crisis intervention techniques
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to determine the immediate and long-term needs of clients, including safety planning, emotional support, and connection to community resources
- Offer advocacy services to help clients navigate legal systems, including court advocacy and accompaniment to hearings, as well as providing information on restraining orders, custody, and other legal matters
- Develop personalized case management plans, helping clients access housing, financial resources, healthcare, legal assistance, and mental health support
- Provide referrals and coordinate services with community organizations, shelters, and legal advocates to ensure comprehensive care for clients
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and ethical standards
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, collaborating with law enforcement, healthcare providers, legal professionals, and other service providers to coordinate care and support
- Educate clients about their rights, available resources, and options for addressing domestic violence, empowering them to make informed decisions
- Support clients through the process of empowerment and resilience-building, helping them regain control over their lives
- Assist in the development of educational materials and training for staff and community partners about domestic violence awareness, prevention, and intervention strategies
Job Requirements
- Master of Social Work (MSW) required with active New York State LMSW licensure
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in social work, with a focus on domestic violence, trauma, or crisis intervention preferred
- Strong understanding of domestic violence dynamics, legal systems, trauma-informed care, and culturally competent practice
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and provide client-centered care
- Experience with case management and knowledge of community resources for survivors of domestic violence
- Ability to maintain boundaries while building trusting, empathetic relationships with clients
- Knowledge of confidentiality laws, including HIPAA, and ethical standards in social work
- Bilingual skills a plus (Spanish, ASL, etc.)
- Experience working with underserved populations or in a community-based setting
- Familiarity with safety planning and legal advocacy related to domestic violence
- Experience in crisis intervention or working with individuals in acute distress
