About the Opportunity
Our client is a investment management firm with a multistrategy hedge fund located in Manhattan, New York. In 2023, it was one of the world’s largest alternative asset management firms with over $61.1 billion assets under management. They are seeking a Payroll Specialist that will support the production of Americas and expatriate payroll for over 2,000 employees in a fast paced and dynamic work environment. The Payroll Specialist will work closely with teams across HR, Benefits, Compensation as well as partners in Finance and Legal in the production of payroll and support special projects and partner department requests.
The base pay for this position is $50 to $85 per hour. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Responsibilities
- Process bi-monthly US and Puerto Rico payroll in Workday
- Prepare and load data into Workday (EIBs) as needed
- Prepare audit reports and reconciliations to support the validation and finalization of payroll
- Work with our third-party vendor in the production of bi-monthly Canada payroll
- Prepare vendor data input forms (Flexi-forms), validate gross to net reports, prepare audits and reconciliations to support the validation and finalization of payroll
- Run and monitor integrations to/from third parties and reconcile to ensure accurate and timely transmission of data (401K, Flexible Spending, GL, etc.); Run and monitor time and attendance process following up with employees as needed
- Prepare quarterly tax reconciliations; company registrations and clawback adjustments
- Process off cycle termination and final payments as needed in compliance with state regulations
- Support new hire onboarding payroll tasks including auditing employee state/local set-up and answering employee inquiries.
- Participate in various ad-hoc and routine projects and requests as needed
Requirements
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting or another business-related field
- Strong functional Payroll knowledge with 7+ years processing multi-state payroll in a complex business environment
- Experience using Workday Payroll
- Technical knowledge of state and federal tax regulations
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Strong analytical skills, ability to interpret payroll data and share results in a meaningful manner
- Team player with strong verbal and written communication skills to answer employee inquiries at all levels and liaise with our tax team and external accounting consultants
- Flexible and able to prioritize in a fast moving, high pressure, constantly changing environment; high sense of urgency and maintaining confidentiality
