About the Opportunity
A rapidly growing, PE-backed home services company specializing in residential landscape transformations is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead accounting operations in Newport Beach, CA. The company has scaled quickly since launching, with revenue set to more than double in 2025. This role will oversee financial reporting, month-end close, budgeting, and cash management while helping build scalable processes and systems. Ideal candidates have experience in home services, construction, real estate, or similar industries, but they are open to strong accounting leaders eager to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. The team works onsite 2-3 days a week, with some flexibility.
The annual base salary range is $125,000 to $160,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage all aspects of accounting, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable and receivable, payroll processing, and tax compliance
- Ensure financial records remain accurate and up to date, facilitating timely month-end and year-end closing procedures
- Monitor and analyze project-related finances, including job costing, committed expenses, and progress-based invoicing
- Develop and enforce internal controls to maintain financial accuracy, security, and regulatory compliance
- Generate and review key financial reports such as profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow summaries
- Track cash flow and collaborate with leadership to support long-term financial stability and decision-making
- Assist external financial advisors with budgeting, forecasting, and broader financial planning initiatives
- Ensure adherence to all applicable tax laws and regulations while coordinating with external auditors for compliance reviews
- Partner with project managers to monitor financial performance and implement cost-control strategies
- Streamline accounting operations by enhancing systems and utilizing technology to improve workflow efficiency
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a similar discipline; CPA or CMA certification is a plus
- At least six years of accounting experience, ideally within residential construction, home services, or a comparable industry
- Deep knowledge of project accounting, job costing, and various construction contract types, including T&M, GMP, Cost-Plus, and Lump Sum
- Proven ability to manage month-end close procedures and prepare financial reports
- Strong proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems, with experience in system implementation being a bonus
- Sharp analytical abilities and keen attention to detail
- Effective communicator and leader, capable of working collaboratively across departments
- Comfortable navigating a dynamic and fast-growing business environment
