About the Opportunity
We are partnered with a NYC nonprofit serving people impacted by the criminal legal system. They are seeking a Human Resource Generalist who will support the day-to-day needs of the center’s incredible talent, all while acting as a steward of company culture! This is not your typical HR role; you will be an agent of growth and change, and you’ll make an immediate impact through your expertise in HR best practices, employee relations and leadership coaching. As part of their People and Culture function, you will design, build and execute the strategy that drives the company’s success!
The base pay range for this position is $40 to $45/hr. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Be a trusted advisor to company leaders to help them deliver their best work every single day
- Roll up your sleeves to perform a full range of HR duties from high-level strategy to employee relations and problem-solving
- Solve problems and get to the root cause of any issue, no matter how complex, and design and quickly implement solutions
- Provide insightful data to guide decision making and provide people solutions to make teams more effective
- Drive planning and implementation of company-wide HR initiatives
- Enable leaders to be their best through direct, compassionate, and contextualized coaching
- Collaborate with others (People & Culture team, cross-functional partners, HRBP peers, etc.) to build out critical initiatives
- Provide guidance on employee relations matters, support with conflict resolution and repair
- Conduct complex and confidential investigations into complaints and grievances
Job Requirements
- 4-6 years of progressive experience in human resources or as a strategic HR Business Partner
- Demonstration of experience in all HR competencies with extensive labor law knowledge and deep expertise in at least one of the following areas: employee relations, talent acquisition, DEIB, coaching, leaves and ADA accommodations, total rewards, or change management
- Demonstrated experience and a passion for strong collaboration with others (People & Culture team members, cross-functional partners at all levels of the agency, HRBP peers, etc.) to build world class initiatives
- Experience with the following software is preferred: CultureAmp, SurveyMonkey, Qualtrics, ADP Workforce Now

- Excellent communication skills and ability to coach, influence, and partner with various levels of employees
