Inpatient Psychiatric RN

About the Opportunity

Our client in Nyack, New York is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join their Inpatient Psychiatric Unit team. The Inpatient Psych RN plays a vital role in providing comprehensive care and support to individuals facing mental health challenges. The annual base salary range is $85,000 to $100,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough psychiatric assessments to evaluate the mental and emotional status of patients
  • Develop, implement, and update individualized care plans to address the unique needs of each patient
  • Administer medications, monitor their effects, and provide patient education on medication management
  • Monitor patients for signs of distress, agitation, or potential crisis situations
  • Intervene in crisis situations using de-escalation techniques and provide emotional support
  • Ensure a safe and secure environment, including suicide and harm prevention measures
  • Build therapeutic relationships with patients to foster trust and open communication
  • Facilitate group therapy sessions and activities to promote socialization and recovery
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care
  • Administer and manage psychiatric medications according to physician orders
  • Educate patients and families about medication regimens, potential side effects, and the importance of compliance
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, care plans, interventions, and progress
  • Report any changes in a patient’s condition to the healthcare team and participate in care conferences
  • Provide psychoeducation to patients and their families about mental health conditions and treatment options
  • Offer guidance and resources to support patients in their recovery journey

 

Job Requirements

  • Current RN license in New York
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred
  • Previous experience in psychiatric nursing or a related field is an advantage
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Empathy and a nonjudgmental attitude toward individuals with mental health conditions
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy
