About the Opportunity
Our client in Nyack, New York is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join their Inpatient Psychiatric Unit team. The Inpatient Psych RN plays a vital role in providing comprehensive care and support to individuals facing mental health challenges. The annual base salary range is $85,000 to $100,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform thorough psychiatric assessments to evaluate the mental and emotional status of patients
- Develop, implement, and update individualized care plans to address the unique needs of each patient
- Administer medications, monitor their effects, and provide patient education on medication management
- Monitor patients for signs of distress, agitation, or potential crisis situations
- Intervene in crisis situations using de-escalation techniques and provide emotional support
- Ensure a safe and secure environment, including suicide and harm prevention measures
- Build therapeutic relationships with patients to foster trust and open communication
- Facilitate group therapy sessions and activities to promote socialization and recovery
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care
- Administer and manage psychiatric medications according to physician orders
- Educate patients and families about medication regimens, potential side effects, and the importance of compliance
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, care plans, interventions, and progress
- Report any changes in a patient’s condition to the healthcare team and participate in care conferences
- Provide psychoeducation to patients and their families about mental health conditions and treatment options
- Offer guidance and resources to support patients in their recovery journey
Job Requirements
- Current RN license in New York
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred
- Previous experience in psychiatric nursing or a related field is an advantage
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Empathy and a nonjudgmental attitude toward individuals with mental health conditions
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy
