About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Director to join their high-impact finance and operations team. This individual will play a critical role in leading payroll operations in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment, delivering strategic and hands-on oversight that ensures accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing across multi-state and global populations.
The Payroll Director will serve as a trusted leader within the organization, overseeing day-to-day payroll workflow, maintaining and auditing payroll data, and ensuring all payroll transactions are processed with accuracy and efficiency. Responsibilities include managing changes to payroll records such as exemptions, deductions, employment status, and departmental transfers, preparing detailed payroll reports, resolving discrepancies through thorough analysis, and identifying opportunities to improve and automate payroll processes. The Payroll Director will also provide day-to-day oversight of junior team members and contribute to a culture of operational excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
The annual base salary range is $120,000 to $200,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Ensure the processing of multi-state and global payroll is accurate and timely
- Manage workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely
- Maintain and audit payroll information through collecting, calculating, entering, and uploading data
- Update payroll records, entering changes in exemptions, deductions, employment status, and department/division transfers
- Oversee junior team members on a day-to-day basis
- Recommend ways to improve and automate payroll processes
- Prepare reports, compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages
- Resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information and responding in a timely matter
Job Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in end to end payroll processing
- Must have managerial experience (this role manages a team of 3)
- Must have knowledge of Federal and State Tax regulations and laws
- Workday experience is highly preferred
- Strong Excel skills are a huge plus
- Bachelor’s degree required
