About the Opportunity
Our client, an established technology company operating within the financial services sector, is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to develop and enhance the systems supporting its technology platform. This individual will work closely with engineering and product teams to design scalable applications, improve system performance, and deliver reliable technical solutions. The ideal candidate will bring extensive backend development experience, strong architectural judgment, and the ability to independently manage complex engineering initiatives. This is a full-time position based in New York, NY.
The annual base salary range is $150,000 to $200,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend applications, services, and APIs that support business operations and platform functionality
- Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions
- Lead the technical execution of complex development initiatives, including architecture, implementation, testing, and deployment
- Design scalable cloud-based solutions with an emphasis on reliability, security, and long-term maintainability
- Evaluate existing systems and identify opportunities to improve application performance, scalability, and operational efficiency
- Participate in technical design discussions, code reviews, and the development of engineering best practices
- Implement automated testing and monitoring practices to support application quality and production stability
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues and provide ongoing support for production systems
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools to support coding, testing, troubleshooting, and overall engineering productivity
Job Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience using modern programming languages
- 5+ years of experience developing backend applications, services, or APIs
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, Python, TypeScript, or comparable technologies
- Strong understanding of cloud-based application development, distributed systems, and scalable software architecture
- Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases, including data modeling and performance optimization
- Familiarity with automated testing, version control, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software development practices
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex technical initiatives and contribute to architectural decisions
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with experience collaborating across technical and non-technical teams
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools to support software design, implementation, and quality assurance
