About the Opportunity
Our client is a Stamford-based startup that is backed by a major investment manager. They are actively seeking a Director of Accounting to support the Controller, and play a pivotal role in the expansion and growth of the company. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who started in public accounting and is working in-house, or those in audit looking to transition to the private industry. The office is walking distance from the train station.
The annual base salary range is $135,000 to $165,000 with free benefits. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
Job Responsibilities
- Redefine internal controls and processes, ensuring operational efficiency and accuracy
- Oversee all aspects of general accounting, from financial transactions to reconciliations and month-end closings
- Take charge of revenue reporting, ensuring compliance with regulations and maximizing financial performance
- Drive tax calculations, collaborating with external advisors to optimize tax strategies
- Produce comprehensive financial reports and consolidations, offering actionable insights and analysis
- Utilize advanced analytics to optimize vessel operating expenses and enhance operational effectiveness
- Lead system implementations and improvements, leveraging technology to streamline financial operations
- Facilitate seamless integration of acquisitions, aligning financial systems and processes
- Address shareholder requests with professionalism and maintain strong stakeholder relationships
- Ensure compliance with statutory reporting requirements
- Oversee annual audits, ensuring accuracy and minimizing discrepancies
Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting
- Preferably a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or working towards certification
- Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience
- Prior experience in public accounting is highly advantageous
- Proven track record in managing financial operations
- Familiarity with Sage Intacct or similar financial software is preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc
