HIV Med Registered Nurse

About the Opportunity

Our client, a respected nonprofit healthcare organization in Essex County, NJ, is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join a dedicated outpatient team serving individuals affected by HIV, substance use disorders, and other healthcare disparities.

This role offers the opportunity to work closely with patients in a supportive clinic environment focused on prevention, education, treatment, and long-term wellness. The ideal candidate is passionate about community health, harm reduction, patient advocacy, and meeting people where they are in their healthcare journey.

The annual base salary range is $85,000 to $90,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care, education, and support to patients receiving HIV-related services and preventative care
  • Administer immunizations and medications in accordance with established protocols and standing orders
  • Perform STI screening, specimen collection, testing coordination, and patient follow-up
  • Deliver HIV prevention education, risk-reduction counseling, and PrEP-related support services
  • Provide overdose prevention education and distribute Naloxone (Narcan) as appropriate
  • Conduct patient assessments and coordinate referrals to medical, behavioral health, substance use treatment, and community resources
  • Educate patients regarding HIV, hepatitis, sexually transmitted infections, chronic disease management, safer sex practices, and harm reduction strategies
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure compliance with state, federal, and organizational requirements
  • Monitor inventory, supplies, vaccines, and clinical equipment
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, reporting requirements, and program data collection
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary staff to support patient engagement and continuity of care

 

Job Requirements

  • Active New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred or required based on licensure standards
  • Minimum two years of community health, public health, ambulatory care, infectious disease, or related nursing experience
  • Experience working with underserved populations strongly preferred
  • Phlebotomy experience or blood collection skills preferred
  • Knowledge of HIV care, STI prevention, harm reduction, substance use treatment, or community-based healthcare is highly desirable
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and patient engagement skills
  • Bilingual Spanish-speaking candidates are strongly encouraged to apply
